The six expressive pieces in this book have been adapted from my original collection of piano solos, Through the Windowpane, based on poems by Robert Louis Stevenson. The musical settings of these poems were composed to encourage developing musicians to connect to their emotions and imaginations through story and sound. This edition has been specially reimagined for students to play with each other in solo and ensemble settings, along with beautiful piano accompaniment parts suitable for their pianist friends or family members. While the instrumental duets can stand alone, playing with a pianist friend will have a magical effect!

Single-Teacher Restriction: This license is bound to one independent teacher or ensemble director. It allows unlimited printing and digital file sharing exclusively for their own direct students. It cannot be legally transferred or shared with outside teachers or broad institutional music departments without a dedicated “Multi-Teacher License”.

These descriptive and lyrical chamber pieces are available for multiple instrumental options. Contact us at [email protected] if your instrument is not represented in the options listed.

Originally published in 1885, A Child’s Garden of Verses is a collection of over fifty verses written by the Scottish poet Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 – 1894). These verses recall fond memories of his childhood, written later in his life at a time when he was suffering from illness. This series of chamber music has been arranged with flexible instrumental options so that student musicians can have fun making music together.  Each of the instruments gets an opportunity to voice some of the melodic ideas. Listen for balanced and beautifully shaped phrases as the melodic ideas are passed from one instrument to the other.
