The pieces in this book have been adapted from my original collection of piano solos, Through the Windowpane, based on poems by Robert Louis Stevenson. The musical settings of these poems were composed to encourage developing musicians to explore the inherent poetry in music and to be bold in expressing that same poetry in performance.

Originally published in 1885, A Child’s Garden of Verses is a collection of over fifty verses written by the Scottish poet Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 – 1894). These verses recall fond memories of his childhood, written later in his life at a time when he was suffering from illness. This series of chamber music has been arranged with flexible instrumental options so that student musicians can have fun making music together.  Each of the instruments gets an opportunity to voice some of the melodic ideas. Listen for balanced and beautifully shaped phrases as the melodic ideas are passed from one instrument to the other.
